Day 4 of Gardens for Learning!

On day 4, Bob Engstrom a.k.a The Worm Whisperer came in to show and teach us a little about bugs and worms! All the kids gathered around his piles of worms, dirt, and bugs. After all the exploration and playing, Bob had them make their own Worm Hotel, layered with sand, dirt, food, and worms! While some kids we’re making their hotels others were playing with the bug sensory bin, filled with dry black beans and pasta bugs! After he left we all sat together to read about Praying Mantis, and created our own praying mantis mask.  We all harvested for our snack and made our own pesto salad dressing.

Day 3 of Gardens for Learning!

Another Successful day! While we ate lunch we reminded and went over with the kids on what is good and what is not good for compost. After lunch, the kids gathered and planted beans in a cup. Then, we went around the library to collect some items for our Nature Face craft. Then Mr.K arrived and gave the kids a wonderful puppet show on Erosion! Before we knew it it was time to make smoothies and end a great day!

Rockin’ with Paint!

The kids had fun with Judy for The Summer Reading Program! Started with the book Stick and Stone by Beth Ferry. Then continued on with painting rocks! Stay tuned for next week as we’ll be Rockin’ it out with Panpipes with Mr. K!

Looking for Volunteer’s!

We’re looking for Middle and High School Students who would like to earn some community service hours. Sign-up with the library to do Sidewalk Art! Adults are welcome to sign-up too. Help Spread the Word!

Day 2 of Gardens for Learning!

Another successful day in the books! On day two we all learned about compost. We started with Karoline reading us a book about compost. Discussing the do’s and don’ts. Then we followed our layer compost chart and made compost in a bottle. After, we created our seed clay balls. Made with molding clay seeds and dirt, so they could bring home and plant them! Then all the kids colored in and created their seed life cycle hats.  And of course after every day they weed and water the garden.

Day 1 of Gardens for Learning!

Oh my did we all have a great time! The first day we had a special Guest with us, Mr. K. Him and his companion taught the children All about seeds! Everything from seed travel, different types of seeds, and even dissecting a seed to learn about the different layers. We even went on a seed hunt to see all the different ones we could find, just around the library! After he said his goodbye’s, we all gathered around to decorate our Garden observation Journals. After, the kids help put together an imaginative play garden, as we layered it with rocks, dirt and grass seed, we discussed what we need to make a garden. Then they all gathered and harvested salad greens for their snack. As we closed down day one all the children sat quietly around the garden observing and jotting things down in their journals.

Concert Benefit!

Just an amazing turn out here at the EPL! Thank you so so much David Rosane and the Zookeepers for coming to our quaint little library here in Enosburg. Thank you for preforming! Because of everyone getting together to enjoy the wonderful music and everyone’s generosity, we were able to raise 321.50 dollars towards our library programs! We cannot express enough on how grateful we are!

Side note Make sure you follow David and the Zookeepers and check out their new album Book of Zoo.

We would love to give a big thanks to everyone and your wonderful support to this library. Some time last year we had many submissions for our Logo contest. They were all very wonderful! After we sat down and went through the entries we all decided. Let’s give a big shout out to Apple Maddox for submitting her wonderful doodle! Also, thank you to Alex Ellsworth (from Cold hollow Career Center) for being able to digitize the picture! We have such a great community here at the Enosburgh Public Library! Again thank you all so much.
